Meet Mr. Horton

Mr. Horton, the principal of SEIS, answered a few questions for a reporter.

1. Why did you want to become a principal?

He wanted to become a principal to help teachers become better at their jobs and to have a better effect on the student’s learning life.

2. What do you think is the best way to study for a test?

Mr. Horton’s tip of the day is about studying. He says, “He thinks it is to make it meaningful to you. If you make it interesting for yourself, you’ll remember it. He believes that you should not sit and remember, that does not work. Tie it to something.

3. Do you like your job at SEIS?

Yes, absolutely. Mr. Horton likes the students, the teachers. Likes that students at this level consider advice that you give and then try to use it.

4. What do you do as the principal?

Observe teachers, make sure the building is running smoothly, try to provide teachers with tools they can use in their classroom, discipline.

5. Should students have a good learning environment?

Yes, students should come to school and feel safe and want to learn and should be fun, and when it’s fun, they learn a little more.

6. Were you a good student when you were in school?

Yes, he studied hard, thinks he studied a bit harder than anyone else.

7. Did you enjoy this school year?

Yes, he liked that every year is different, trying to have fun at the same time, Patriot program, the musical, different things teachers did, makerspace.

8. Are you looking forward to next year, and what do you expect next year?

Yes, he is looking forward to it and thinks students will use makerspace more, use the training bikes they bought this year, excited to see what teachers will do for learning techniques.

Meet Mrs. Trish

Attendance Secretary

When interviewing Mrs. Trish Trahan the secretary in the Intermediate School Office, I learned about what she likes and what is her role in our school. I learned that she enjoys spending time with her family. Her job title is Attendance Secretary; this job is to answer the phones and the door. She keeps track of the students' attendance. One thing Mrs. Trahan said is "I love my job, it is very busy, and it's is something different every day." Mrs. Trahan has been working at SEIS for ten years, that is a long time. After that, I asked her if she felt like retiring. She said, she does but can't unless she wins the lottery.

Top 7 Tips for 5th Grade

Here are some of the things you need to know as a 5th grader.

1. There are 2 specials every day. The first specials rotate through Art, Music, Research and Computer Science. You have a gym for the second special 5 days a week and health on day 6.

2. Make sure you bring your agenda anywhere you go throughout the school.

3. Even though the school is bigger, you won’t get lost. It will seem like you have been there for years.

4. Don’t worry about locker combinations you write it down in your agenda and you will memorize it quickly.

5. Think about your day and try to make as little trips to the locker as possible.

6. Enjoy recess while you have it you only have it for 2 more years.

7. You have more freedom because you go to classes independently.

Top 10 Things for Doing Your Best in 6th Grade

Study for your tests and quizzes.
Get a good night’s sleep, and go to bed on time.
Eat a healthy breakfast every morning.
Shower every morning, it helps get you awake.
Get your work done on time, it helps with grades.
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Don’t bully others or your friends.
Don’t put yourself down if you did something wrong. It happens to everyone!
